Hip Danish folk music with a modern sound
Tumult is a unique band with a very personal style. They aim at playing hip Danish folk music with a modern sound, and have done so for 10 years with a wonderful mixture of folk, roots and rock. They break down barriers, stir things up a bit – and releases the raw power that lies within urban folk music. As they say: “we play our own music!”
This way folkmusic (traditional and contemporary) are given a new life – and a new audience.
Together the band has been called an “anarchistic foursome” and they agree on that there are no rules when it comes to their music! Everything is allowed, nothing is prohibited, as long as the aim is to reveal a piece of art!
Hair-raising folk-rock
The band threw themselves onto the Danish music scene in 1999, and they have no intentions of turning back yet. So far they have released three critically acclaimed and widely popular albums with traditional and self-composed songs and tunes – all with Tumult’s very own "hip" and modern twist. The band has been nominated for several Danish Music Awards and their music and enthusiasm have so far opened doors in Denmark as well as throughout Scandinavia, Northern Europe and Russia. Where ever they go, they are greeted with great enthusiasm and their music always manages to create tumult on the dance floors.
With their third album "Aldrig får jeg fred" - released in 2008 - they hope to reach a still broader audience. In 2009 Tumult has been selected to be part of Danish Roots - an export project which helps promoting danish high class folk music outside Denmark - supported by the Danish state.
A tumultuous quartet
Tumult consists of four highly skilled and experienced musicians from very different musical backgrounds, or as they describe themselves: A long-fingered folk fiddler, a cocky rockguitarist, a slightly worn all-bass player and a funky old school drummer.
In slightly more traditional terms, Tumult is:
Jørgen Dickmeiss – fiddle, mandolin, bodhran, accordion, vocal
Mikkel Grue – guitars, dobro, vocal
Morten Jørgensen – basses, vocal
Jens Kristian Dam – drums, cajõn, vocal
